A Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial Which Will Deliver Dramatic Results

Smokey eyes are one trend that will not be going away anytime soon. This has been in style for some time now and people still love it. If you want the smokey eye look as displayed by Angelina Jolie, here is your smokey eye makeup tutorial. Once you get the hang of the techniques, your eyes will be a thing of beauty. Others will want to know how you learned to do this.

Makeup artists will tell you that proper blending is the secret to smokey eyes. This will be emphasized throughout the smokey eye makeup tutorial. Flawless blending is essential to get the look you desire as you will be using both dark, rich colors and light base shades. Be sure to try different palette combinations for the perfect look. Some you may wish to try are a peach base with a green hue or a champagne base with a bright blue.

Gather your tools before you begin. For the best application, you will need eye primer, two eyeshadow shades and makeup brushes. Mascara and eyeliner will be needed for the finishing touch. Prepare your lids by applying with a primer. Just sweep this across your lids and allow it to dry before continuing. Using primer will ensure that your shadows do not melt and pool in the crease of your eyelid. Next apply eyeliner.

With black, brown or smoky gray liner, you should apply this above the upper lash. Draw the line thicker in the center of the eye. Next use an eyeliner pencil to line the lower lashes. When applying liner to the lower lashes, you will need to smudge the color to blend it. Some choose to apply shadow to get more of a smudge effect. This is a matter of personal preference.

Once you have applied eyeliners, start with your light base shade. Cream works well, but again you may wish to try different shades until you find one you like. Taupe and pearl also work nicely. Eyeshadows which are of a "mousse" consistency seem to last the longest. Just swipe the light shade on your lids from the lashes to the brow bone.

Next you will add the darker eyeshadow. This shade should be kept below the crease to achieve the look you are after. Here is where your makeup brushes will come into play. Blend this color at the lash line and slowly move up, blending the entire time. The key to this step of the smokey eye makeup tutorial is to blend until the eye liner disappears. Again, blending is essential. Use a Q-tip if necessary to get the right effect. Finish up with mascara. Several coats is best. If you are still unsure of how to achieve this look, check out an online video. This will show you how to properly apply eyeshadow to get the smokey eye look you desire.

I agree, blending is definitely key, even if you're using glittery or shimmery shadows. Ok, especially if you're using glittery shadows. Blending lets you sparkle a bit without looking like a teenager.

Smoky eyeshadow is so pretty. I used a similar smoky eyed technique in my sister's wedding. It offset that god-awful peach dress she made me wear by drawing attention to my face and away from the dress.

What a great tutorial. I love the step by step. It would be even better with pictures though. It would make the technique a lot easier to follow and learn.
